The Pentagon has reportedly mobilized 700 Marines to Los Angeles in response to escalating protests against government immigration raids and deportations. This deployment comes following President Donald Trump’s threat to send additional troops to the city to address the unrest.
According to reports, the battalion of Marines, said to be from the Twentynine Palms base in southern California, will be stationed in Los Angeles temporarily. This decision was made despite a relatively calm day of protests in the city.
The move to deploy Marines follows violent anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles on Sunday night, prompting authorities to take swift action to maintain order. In addition to the Marine deployment, National Guard troops are also being doubled to support federal response efforts.
While President Trump has claimed that the protests are under control, Governor Gavin Newsom has criticized the Marine deployment as a “provocation.” The situation remains tense as the presence of military personnel in response to civil unrest raises concerns among the public.
As the situation continues to evolve, the deployment of Marines to Los Angeles underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in managing widespread protests and maintaining public safety.
