The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued Tornado Watch Number 367 for portions of east-central and southeast New Mexico, as well as west-central Texas. This watch is effective from Thursday afternoon until late evening, with the primary threats being the potential for a few tornadoes, scattered large hail events up to 4 inches in diameter, and damaging winds gusting up to 80 mph.
Scattered supercell development is expected to occur by mid-afternoon, with storms moving eastward throughout the evening. Initially, these supercells could produce very large hail, with an increasing risk of tornadoes as the storms interact with a residual outflow boundary. There is also the possibility of severe outflow winds reaching up to 75 mph later in the evening.
The tornado watch area spans approximately 95 statute miles north and south of a line from 70 miles east-southeast of Lubbock, TX, to 70 miles north of Carlsbad, NM. Residents in these areas should remain vigilant for threatening weather conditions and stay tuned for further updates and possible warnings.
It is essential to remember that a Tornado Watch indicates that conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in the designated area. Individuals in these regions should be prepared to take action if necessary.
