The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 360, covering portions of South-Central and Southeast Kansas, much of Oklahoma, and Western North Texas. The watch is effective from Tuesday afternoon until the evening, with primary threats including damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and the possibility of a tornado or two.
Forecasters anticipate scattered to numerous thunderstorms developing and intensifying throughout the afternoon and evening. Some of these storms may become supercells or line segments capable of producing large hail, severe gusts, and even tornadoes, particularly towards the evening hours.
The watch area extends approximately 100 statute miles east and west of a line from 35 miles northwest of Chanute, Kansas, to 40 miles southwest of Wichita Falls, Texas. Residents in these areas should remain vigilant for threatening weather conditions and stay tuned for further updates and possible warnings.
Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch indicates that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms, so it’s crucial to be prepared and alert for any potential hazards. Stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure your safety during severe weather events.
